Abstract

This study investigates the impact of reading literacy on achievement motivation in early-year university students through the lens of Self-Determination Theory. Using a quasi-experimental Nonequivalent Control Group Design, 120 students were divided into an experimental group receiving a reading literacy program and a control group with standard lectures. Results showed higher reading literacy (79.12 vs. 73.78) and achievement motivation (83.46 vs. 76.78) in the experimental group. A strong positive correlation (r = 0.682, p < 0.01) was found between reading literacy and motivation. These findings affirm that enhancing reading literacy can significantly boost intrinsic academic motivation by promoting competence and autonomy.
