Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types of collocation and the semantic components of body activity verbs in short stories published on the Basa-basi.co portal. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach within the framework of lexical semantics, the study examined body activity verbs and their collocational patterns. Data were collected through documentation and note-taking techniques with the assistance of AntConc software and analyzed qualitatively. The findings reveal that body activity verbs are realized through two types of collocation: grammatical and lexical. Grammatical collocations are predominantly represented by the verb + function word + noun pattern, whereas lexical collocations are dominated by the verb + noun pattern. Furthermore, the semantic component analysis demonstrates that verbs denoting eye, hand, and foot activities differ in terms of duration, target object, body movement, and movement intensity. These findings highlight the role of collocation in distinguishing subtle semantic differences among body activity verbs and contribute to the development of semantic studies, particularly collocational and componential analyses in Indonesian linguistics.
